Gluten Free Play Dough

Kids love to put things in their mouths and kids love play dough!

Playing with playdough is lots of fun but it’s also great for the development of little finger and hand muscles. It improves both fine and gross motor skills, and can be calming as children work out stress through their hands.

This is an easy no cook playdough recipe, which makes quite a bit of dough.  It’s perfect for sensory fun for those with allergies or coeliac disease. It’s quick to make, super soft and won’t harm the kids if they “accidently” get it in their mouths.

Gluten Free Play Dough Recipe

Ingredients

2 cups of gluten free plain flour
2 cups of rice flour
4 tbsp xanthan gum
4 tbsp cream of tartar
4 tbsp oil
2 cups of boiling water
3 different food colours of choice
6 drops of vegetable glycerine (optional, but increases shine and stretch)

Instructions

Simply combine all dry ingredients well, then add the oil and mix thoroughly.
Divide dough into 3 equal batches.
Divide boiling water into 3 and add a different colour to each, then let cool slightly.
Add 2 drops of glycerine to each.
Combine the 3 different coloured water mixes with the 3 individual dough mixes, and knead them until soft, stretchy and smooth.

Viola!  You now have 3 different colours of gluten free playdough for your child to make amazing things with.

Remember to keep them well wrapped in airtight containers after junior has finished, so they will continue to stay fresh and usable.

And just one extra handy tip from experience - Consider the board you use when kneading. Use an old board if you don't want your beautiful wooden chopping board to turn a strange colour!

So who is ready to play?
